the sun is shining
like it's laughing in my face
the darkness of the night
gone without a trace
the birds are singing
a sweet melody
but i never knew a crowded room
could be so lonely
i thought i could take comfort
in an innocent smile
i hoped i could pretend
and be happy for a while
i prayed no one would notice
as sadness in my eyes
and a darkness as black
as midnight skies
i never imagined
i could feel so alone
never did i think
i'd end up on my own
i thought promises
were meant to last
and i thought i was strong enough
to overcome the past
