Gratitude--An Ode to Interplast

How do I thank thee

My mind ponders to see

And count ways and yet

What you've done is beyond

Perceptions written down in black and white

You've travelled from lands unknown

To be amidst us

Time's tide now takes you away

But remember the two weeks that you stayed

Have left impressions--deep.

Caricatures, disfigurements, and mutilations

God's creations restored and revived

Who can fathom the joy?

Of parents, of children

Given another chance at life

Your work is noble, in ways divine

You serve His people

In ways so humble

And as you leave, our hearts

Do pine

Author's Notes/Comments:

I am a surgeon, and poetry, like surgery, is a passion. This is a tribute to Interplast, a team of plastic surgeon and nurses. They held a two-week camp at our district hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. I had the opportunity of assisting and learning from their experience. I was moved by their devotion to work and humanity. Upon their farewell, I wrote these verses. I love writing for special occasions and people. I have always been fascinated by poetry and prose. Simple words woven into a verse that can convey feelings is something I strive for.
