Question-1:

 

For the students in your class, try to assess your students learning styles using observation and some simple activities such as hands on activities, using different types of resources to find the students learning styles.

 

Answer:

 

In my class I have all three types of learners (e.g., visual, auditory and kinesthetic). I am sharing a realistic case study from my class and from that I will state how they were identified, my methods are listed as follows-

 

 

 

Case Study:

 

In the very first day of my class, I started talking about the realistic application of differentiation. I was lecturing on the topic for first 10 minutes. I found that, three students (shabab, jahid and mitul) were gossiping among each other. They were not that much interested to listen to me properly. Meanwhile, I found maria, farah and shoeb were listening to me very carefully and they were discussing to me on various topics. They were able to answer my assessment questions verbally. Maria was was asking for more challenging mathematical problems.  

 

In the later part or my class I showed a poster where the diagram of different graph and functions were listed. Then I found my first three students mentioned above, stopped talking and watching the poster sharply. They became interested in that requested to show them some VDOs from youtube regarding this chapter.

 

My rest other students were sometimes listening to it and sometimes they seemed lost. One of them (sohan) asked me that how these problems can be used in our future life. Sabiha also asked, how engineers apply differentiation in their realistic calculation. 

 

My observations: 

 

1.   

Visual learners: Shabab, Jahid and Mitul

2.   

Auditory Learners: Maria, Farah, Shoeb

3.   

Kinesthetic Learners: Sohan, Jubayer, Dipto.

 

Rest others were of mixed types.    

 

 

 

Question-2:

 

What long term improvement will you make based on the respective learners’ styles? State what kind of resources you would prefer in order to satisfy each type of learning style of your students.

 

Answer:

 

In The first question I have mentioned my three types of learner categories. The next day I observed the students again to make sure that my previous observations holds true. I got almost the similar result. Then I took the following steps to enrich my resources:

 

1.          

Talk to the supervisor: I talked to the supervisor regarding my student needs and types. She agreed with my assessment and assured me that she will provide all sorts of support to help my learners.

2.          

Talk to the other subject teacher: I talked to the other subject teachers that how they feel about my assessment and I requested them to share their teaching strategies that they follow under different circumstances (like- regular class conduct, class test conduct, verbal assessment taking, showing ppts etc).

3.          

Resources in school: I talked to the librarian that, what are the realistic mathematical resources available in our library like posters, measuring tapes, different object with dissimilar shapes, reference books, data handbooks etc.

4.          

PPTs and notes: I prepared different types of PPTs and lecture notes handouts for my students. They were justified by the supervisor and delivered to the students which were very fruitful. The students and the guardian both gave positive feedbacks.

5.          

Taking Feedbacks: after completing a whole chapter, I asked for the students to give a feedback without mentioning their names, so that I can understand how they feel about my classes and what do they want more to understand the topic in a better way. They were also allowed to suggest me regarding their demands in teaching strategies.

6.          

Field Trip: I had talked to the supervisor to take my student for a field trip to a construction farm, so that they can realize the realistic measurements done by the engineers.

7.          

Home assignments: Questions from different books and internets were provided to the students as assignment. They solved it and found it fruitful.

 

More or less, these are the fields I am still working on to improve my teaching methodology so that, it becomes helpful for my different type of learners in present and future as well.
