Q1. Choose one session plan which was previously done by the respective teacher and critically analyze to identify all the strength points and developmental points based on lesson “what makes an effective lesson?”. Write in bullets.
Answer:
Based on the 10 strategic points on effective lessons, I would like to discuss my real experience from A-level Students on the topic mentioned above.

Comments |
Reasons |
1. Lesson plan |
Not so effective |
1. My lecture materials were no adequate enough. 2. I could not get the question papers printed on due date. 3. Because of the lacking in point 2 as a result time management became haphazard. 4. The projector was not working properly. |
2. Know your Student |
Very Effective. |
1. I teach them since 2014, from their O-levels.
2. I have already differentiated them according to their learning ability and their ‘intelligence’ level. |
3. Introduce Myself |
Very Effective |
I am already taking classes from the beginning of the session. My students know me very well. Moreover My Thursday topic was not a new topic, I already started the topic in the beginning of the mentioned week. |
4. Structure the lesson |
Well Structured |
1. Warm up session was not effective because almost half of the students join late because of a cricket match held in school. Though my plan was structured but I could not implement in a proper manner.
2. I had a plan to give them a lecture notes which I could not because I was not provide the notes on time from school.
3. I could not use the projector the machine was not working properly. All my lectures had to give verbally and writing on white board though I had a plan to show PPT. |
5. Engage Students |
Very Effective |
1. Students who were present from the very beginning they were given peer works with discussions after my lecture.
2. Individual Problems were given them to solve. |
6. Use ILT (information learning technology) |
Not at all effective |
1. I could not use the Laptop and projector because all the laptops had been occupied previously.
2. The sound system was not working at all. The VDO I wanted to show could not play at all.
3. I only gave a demonstration of a simple calculator programming which was new to students. |
7. Use clear communication |
Quite Effective |
1. A very friendly open discussion session regarding A-level question and their mask scheme took place between my and my students.
2. Students requested to give solve to some critical questions.
3. Instruction for the home works and Pre-Mock exam was clearly announced. |
8. Remembering |
Almost Effective |
Students were asked few question regarding the basic concept of the topic so they could correlate the topic again. |
9. Assessment |
Effective |
1. Verbal assessment was taken
2. Written Marking Cass works was taken.
3. Distinguished home works were provided. |
10. Feedback |
Very Effective |
1. Before finishing class, there was a open discussion session with the students to get their feed back. Almost 90% of them enjoyed the topic.
2. Few students were not familiar with the topic because they were absent in the previous classes related to the topic. They were provided an extra class to make up. |

Q2. Write a reflective report based on the developmental points on teaching and learning from chosen lesson plan. The essay must focus on two points-
a) What went wrong and why?
b) How can they improve the lesson to make it more effective?
Answer:
Reflective Report on
‘Implicit Functions’
This report is entirely prepared on the Last Thursday topic discussed among A-level students entitled “Implicit Functions and Its application in differentiation”. Despite well planning and having a very clear outline of STCP (Short Term Curricular Planning), I had to face some problems in the class and according to my analysis, there were some rifts which will taken into account for making the class more interactive and learner’s friendly. In the following paragraphs, some of the major flaws and their remedies are outlined.
Lack of ULP’s (Unit Lesson Plan):
Though as a teacher I was provided with the STCP but a detailed outline of the ULP is a crying need. As this is my first session of experience with the A-level students, I am facing problems with this. Sometimes, I have to make my own ULP before every class which is very much time consuming. If it would be provided in the beginning of each quarter, as a teacher I can be more prepared with my resources and design my lectures.
Remedy: As a remedy to this problem, I am preserving all the ULPs accordingly in a note-book, getting approved by my supervisor, so that I can use it as a future resource in the upcoming sessions.
Lack of ILT’s:
Sometimes I am prepared with lots of PPTs and VDOs in the pren-drive but because of the laptop-shortages, I could not use them according to my lesson plan. It is quite a very difficult situation, if I have to give a thorough lecture instead of showing the PPT’s and VDOs. That makes everything so haphazard that my prior preparation to take an effective class results to an incomplete and immature ending. This situations created a very bad impact on my visual and linguistic intelligence learners.
Remedy: I have discussed the school authority to rectify the projector system, sound system and give requisition for some more laptops for teachers. They assured me that they will provide me them as soon as possible.
Re-scheduling of Games-tournaments:
Most of the kinesthetic learners are very much attached with participating games tournaments. Some of the tournaments time clashes with the academic calendar. Students find and excuse bunking the class because of the tournament practice. Students coming just after a heavy practice of games naturally can not concentrate on the serious topic like mathematics. They becomes tired and become reluctant to concentrate on the lecture. If some of the students are missing in the group activities, it is very difficult for them to cope up in future classes.
Remedy: I have talked to the supervisor, and she ensured my that, no students will be allowed to participate any games class without the supervision of the games teacher and prior permission to the subject teachers. The supervisor is monitoring the problems seriously.
Lack of resource materials:
This is the most important flaw according to my analysis. I could not give my notes to my students on due time. Students with visual capability and high achievers, intrapersonal students could not concentrate on entire lecture. This situation made the class quite difficult for them to grasp.
Remedy: After given a written objection to the authority, they ensured me to provide notes’ Xerox copy on due time. I have submitted the copy of the notes to supervisor for her approval.
