Staring off
Into the blackened sky
She flips back through her life
She remembers
When she was happy
And also when she was sad
She finally decided
To do something about it
She would measure out
Her happy from her sad
One pill for every fight, bad grade, etc
And she would take one off
Every time something good happened
She started back
To when she was little
And turned back the pages of life
From riding a carousel
To trying to runaway
All the times she would just put
Them down and move towards the next
Finally when she had too many in her hand
She started swallowing
One by one
Oh how she enjoyed it
First she ate one
Then she swallowed two
By the time she was at ten
She started taking them by the handfuls
She did that until they were gone
Or she couldn’t think anymore
Whichever came first
But then the sensation was great
She could feel a thing
They were only short term effects
No big deal
But then she remembered reality
And now she lies in a hospital bed
Barely there
