How can we grow without solid food?
And how can we eat solid food
When we are starving ourselves,
Refusing even the milk within reach?
We are called to drown
In faith, in love, in mercy and salvation
But we sit on the shore,
Worried about our comforts
Our status and dignity
So full of our own self-love
Breathing in the poisons of our own exhalations
From screaming at the breadth of the sea
“I am my own god!”
Surrounded by the multitudes shouting the same
And wondering why we are muted
By the crashing of the waves
God won’t send the tidal wave we need
He will not extend even a glass of everlasting water
To those who do not want it
To him who is hungry, he will be filled
To him who is thirsty, he will quench his thirst
