Hey, Baby...

Folder:
2006

Hey, baby, what are you doing tonight?

It's a party, and everybody's feeling alright.

I'm just standing here, drinking the night away,

But now I'm in the need of a dancing partner...

So what do you say?

Hey, baby, where are you going tonight?

The neon lights are going to be shining bright.

They say that Broadway is going to be the place to be,

So if you don't have any plans...

Why don't you come with me?

Hey, baby, what are you drinking tonight?

It'll take more than beer to get you feeling alright.

I'm having a shot of Jagermeister and a Long Island Iced Tea,

But I hate drinking alone...

So why don't you drink with me?

Hey, baby, who are you going with tonight?

Please don't tell me, you're looking for Mr. Right.

Well, I' haven't found Ms. Right yet, as you can see,

So why don't we talk for a while...

Just you and me?

It's the weekend, let your hair down,

Hit the dance floor, and go paint the town.

Dance the night away until the break of day,

And don't be afraid to throw your cares away...

Hey, baby...

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is a piece I based on the experiences I remember from my years of working in a bar in the entertainment district of Columbus, Ga., where I'm from. It's about how we as a culture and as a society view romance in the 21st century, especially among the 20-somethings who drink and party in these bars. A friend of mine recently suggested that I turn this into a song, as I'm somewhat musically inclined anyway. I've taken his advice, and now I would like yours. Please feel free to comment on this, as your input as readers and fellow poets/songwriters yourselves would be invaluble.
