I met death face to face

But he would not my soul take

Instead he turned and fled from me

In fear he thought me much to bold.

I reach my arms to seize her

And grapple with her to make

But death was stronger than I

And would not my soul take.

I saw her as she stumbled

In fear fleeing from from me

But I felt no compassion

For not even death wanted me.
