As I gaze out the frosty window, the smell of fresh air burns my nostrils. In the distance I can hear the humming of cars wandering along a busy highway. I can hear crickets chirping, telling their friends and family about their journeys and past experiences.
I slowly lift my head, to see hundreds of stars lighting up the blackened, night sky like little lanterns. Dark, grey clouds form, threatening to tear open and spill all that's inside, down onto the thirsty, dry earth. A gust of wind pushes through the trees, rustling their leaves softly.
A lonely child weeps, after being struck firmly with a cane, for questioning her father's decision to kill her only friend, a puppy whom she found hungry and thirsty out on the street. For once she had felt needed. Her desolate screams and cries can be heard throughout the neighborhood, everyone feels guilty as she is struck over and over until she bleeds.
Her father is a preacher, who doesn't like other peoples complicated opinions. He only values his own thoughts and scolds those who disagree with him. The girl's mother is helpless and defenceless, against the angry, raging man. She is afraid of what he could do to them both, but she is too frightened to admit it.
I can hear dogs barking, lots of them, yelling out for the preacher to stop hurting his innocent little daughter. "Shut up ya filthy rotten mutts!" he screams. Suddenly all is quiet, and everyone fears something horrible has happened to the girl. We can't hear the dogs barking, nor can we hear the girl's screams.
Dawn arrives, after a painfully long night. The red sun rises, and everyone bows their head's in sorrow, for blood has been spilt.
