A Wolf’s Tale – A Child’s Love
One day in a forest far, far away, in a land with a small population, a wolf was born. Her name was Jearyck; her mother’s name was Mayzerieh. For months Mayzerieh protected and loved her daughter. Jearyck would always try to test the waters by running away from home. In time she always realized that she was not ready to be away from home and go back to her mother. Jearyck was a good girl and never got into any trouble, other than when she would test the waters.
When Jearyck was about one year and a half, her mother fell sick. Mayzerieh could no longer run fast, she could no longer be in the harsh cold weather as much. If she were to out into the cold, she had to be very well fed. Jearyck stayed by her mother’s sides at all times. She could not risk anything happening to her mother at such a young age. She never strayed away from her mother’s side whenever they went out for a walk. Anytime another animal would walk by, Jearyck would bare her teeth and growl to let others know she is not to be messed with.
Like her mother, Jearyck was very protective and loving. Every morning Jearyck would wake up early to get her mother some food. She would time it just right. As soon as she came back home, Mayzerieh would just now be waking up. Jearyck would ever-so-patiently watch her mother fill herself up on whatever she brought and then finished whatever was left. This became a daily routine for the two wolves.
One day food was scarce. There was no food to be found anywhere near home. Jearyck knew what she had to do; she had to search for food closer to the town. She does not know what will happen—this is new territory for her—but she knows that she must. She gets closer to the first tree outside of her territory; she pause, looks around, sniffs the air, and when she feels comfortable, she takes her first step. She gets about twenty feet out when she hears CRACK, SNAP, CRACK, SNAP. She pauses; she goes to take another step when she hears the sound again. She stands there, not making a move or a sound, her breaths are quite. And then she snaps her head directly forward. A little girl of about twelve or thirteen, wearing a red cloak that blew in the winter breeze and carrying a basket was walking directly towards her.
She begins to growl as if to warn the girl. This was Jearyck’s first time interacting with a human. Her first thought is to keep on walking and ignore the girl. But then the girl sees the wolf standing in the middle of the forest floor. She stops. She tries to avoid any confrontation with the wolf, POP. Jearyck is startled by the sounds of a twig breaking; she immediately crouches into a pouncing stance, teeth bared and all. She drops her basket and runs as fast as she could.
The little girl’s fast and quick movements were seen as a threat to the wolf. The sound of twigs breaking scared Jearyck, CRACK, SNAP, CRACK, SNAP. The noises were making Jearyck mad. She ran after the little girl, to get her to stop making the loud noises. Jearyck caught up with the little girl quickly. She leaped in the air and grabbed the little girl by her foot; the little girl screamed in pain and pass out. Jearyck pulled the little by her foot back home to her mother.
When Jearyck get home she is surprised to see her mother is already awake, pacing back and forth. When Mayzerieh sees her daughter she tries to run her, she begins to lick her all over. Jearyck looks at the little girl and back at her mother as if she was saying here look what I brought, this is for you. Mayzerieh takes what she wants and leaves the rest for her daughter. When Jearyck is finished, the two wolves walk into their cave, cuddle up next to each other, and fall asleep in peace.
It is safe to say that, from point of view, Little Red Riding Hood was in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
