Since I was Little I remember that when me and my family went on vacation, my mother would always buy a magnet as a souvenir, always it didn’t matter the place, the city or the country we were visiting, the first thing she did as soon as we reached a store was buying a magnet. She started with a really small collection, they were all at our refrigerator and I remember that every night at dinner time, when the food wasn’t ready yet, I would start counting them and saying the place they represented. What was really special about those magnets wasn’t the place that they belonged to but the memories that would come to our minds every time we looked at our refrigerator, as soon as the collection started growing it got prettier and more exciting to look at. I remember a game that my brother and I made up, it was called ¨name the magnet¨ in which we had to remember what was the country and city in which our mom bought the magnet, the ones that had representative things such as flags or buildings were really easy but there were ones that just showed a picture of a random place so we had a really good time trying to remember all of the places and of course the one that remembered the most was the winner. When we had visits at home they would always get amazed by my mom’s collection, they would stare for hours to our fully covered in magnets refrigerators, it was so colorful it almost looked like an art piece. My mom’s worst nightmare was someone getting to close to the magnets because indeed some of them were really fragile and any brusque movement could create catastrophe, which sadly happened later when our refrigerator weighted to much that if the magnets weren’t taken off the refrigerator would come down. So with her heart broken my mom had to take off every single piece of memory of our trips, but it’s not all sad later she bought a big magnetic plaque in which she was able to store them all, she framed the plaque and put it at our living room, visits no longer had to come to our kitchen to appreciate them, they could do it as soon as they entered the house or at least I know I always did whenever I entered my house.
