Rain! Freezing rain! Rain everywhere!
Drip and pour and fall.
Cover everything in sight,
I don't mind at all.
The cedar hedge is hunched in clumps
Bending to the ground.
Tree branches are doubled in size,
No birds are around.
The icicles are hanging low
Pointing where ice lies
While rivers of rain stream on down
Lengthening their size.
Their jagged teeth grin in at me
As I peer on out.
That must be my invitation -
Subtle as a shout.
If I go out, I risk my life -
Surfaces are slick.
So thank you very much, cruel ice,
But inside I pick.
