The blackbird patrol has arrived.
Quartering the lawn
They march in tandem
As the early morning sun
Highlights the bright flowers
And a bee hums heavily at my window.
A nearby robin is swiftly routed.
He merely awaits their shifts's end.
Long shadows clarify,
To the accompaniment of various bird songs.
"It's Canada Day," they announce merrily,
"Celebrate the nation's wealth with us."
And I do.
