I watched two little squirrels
Playing follow the leader in my tall hedge
One sunny September morn.
It was funny; it was droll
To see them leaping, scrambling on the branches.
Such expressions they had worn!
And what code of semaphore
Had their greying tails swiftly entered into
Upon meeting up at last?
Run and jump along the trees,
Let the other catch up momentarily,
Reverse quickly - then leave fast.
How I laughed! Those playful scamps
Enjoying their early morning cavorting
Emphasized the need for fun
Which I had been forgetting.
In a happier frame of mind this new day
I revised my plans. Play won.
