I listen to the rising waves
Breaking on the granite, lining the cliff shore
And am in great awe
Of the fierce majesty revealed to me.
I hear the fast strengthening wind
As it whips the wild waves to creamy froth
And I am grateful
For the proof of living nature, so near.
This raw weather is true to life -
So relentlessly comfortless and grim.
It is time to heed
Its message and stop the youthful yearnings.
So, I draw the deepest lungful
Of salt-filled air, rife with ocean smells
Feeling it scour me -
Also empower me to chart a new course.
