I won't say you gave me nothing
To remember you when we part
It's true I have no ring, no goods-
But you gave me this broken heart.
I have no need of great fortunes
And no need of silver nor gold
Riches certainly do bore me-
And your love, your love grows so cold
Worldly possessions remain yours
As those you weren't willing to share
It wasn't them I wanted though-
It was you, only you, soul bare.
Well, my words are empty vessels
Yet carry too much emotion
This broken heart is proof enough
Of my one-sided devotion.
