Dusk steals over the tall hushed trees
Slowly spreading its mauve cape
Stealing the brilliant colours and hues
No, nothing can escape.
So slowly, ever so slowly
It inches o'er the ground
Stilling the hours of playfulness
That before did abound,
Whispering soft gentle words-
Murmurs of eve's pleasure
Soon to arrive with no fanfare.
Would, that time not measure.
The purple cape now covers all
Obliterating sight
And stealthily, softly enters
The being of the night
And I am lost in dusky dreams
Swallowed up by the dark
But yet revealed to me is this-
The daylight is too stark.
