Ah, so sweet, so radiant this lovely splash of perfection
Thrusting gently toward the now waning heat of the sun
Thus brightening the softly mellowing flower garden
With a poignant reminder of life yet begun.
The layered velvety petals open in silent homage
To Old Sol, harvesting his last generously sent rays.
Crimson glory sparkles on leathery foliage
In such wond'rous profusion, to truly amaze.
As happy buds swell to bursting, beautifying the lush scene
Cheery marigold, plush purple petunias, alyssum
Keep the reigning royal monarch regally content
Bowing low in obeisance to its majesty.
O, September rose, you are truly the queen of the season
Spreading your fine robe, brandishing sceptre and sporting crown.
Count me as one of your many minions, here to gaze
At your spreading beauty in your glorious gown.
