Enfolded -deep in his protective arms-
Feeling his heartbeat reverberate,
And the langorous warmth being shared
Was as a bittersweet wild honey-
Stolen sweet nectar reserved for the gods-
Exhilarating and frightening too
For she knew that this man was off limits
He was merely giving her comfort.
She pushed stiffly away from his chest
Resenting her trembling reactions.
The confused pain glittering in her eyes
Was a reason to avert them sharply.
The defensive but fragile barrier
Erected long before, had been breached.
She was afraid she could not go back.
Insecure and lost, she felt as though
She was being twisted in all directions
On a course set by wildly untamed winds.
She should never have let his attractions
Swamp her so-hard-fought-for common sense
She guarded herself enough,
Knowing the feelings that she harboured.
Did she have the necessary strength still
To meet him daily, with no emotions?
No, resignation was necessary.
It would be on his desk tomorrow.
These most painful recriminations,
This reliving of hurt-filled moments,
Would stop, by absence and activity.
The decision was well and truly made.
Off limits!
