HOWE ROAD

The telephone answering service
said the little dog
had been abandoned 2 days before
and had waited 48 hours
by the telephone pole
for his family to return.
With each passing car
one thousand times his
heart rose and fell
until he learned how
not to feel.

A neighbor took him in.

The tendrils of trust
grew slowly...
It took a long time

but with love his

heart began to heal

Your smile heals

She can't exist without her clothes

RIVER MIST 1

Morning mist is a higher river above
the river of the Mississippi

confined to the same searoute,
as an aura of giving grace
flows from the loving.

Before clouds are by dawn sun kissed
above the Mississippi, a morning mist,
;a second river above the first
ends with the river its daily tryst

so do some masters in dispersed form
come nightly to their disciples in dreams

CHAMBERS OF THE STARS

The Star Chambers court of the king
is the opposite of the
blazing
Chambers of the Stars
which love us as we are

Waves ephemeral
in seawaters emerald
but the sea like each soul
is Love Eternal

Coconut milk droplets
pool in coconut goblets.
While goldseekers walk Arthur's trail
this orbed fruit is a Godgifted grail.
But God's favorite chalice
from which to sup
is a heart brimming for all:
the soul's loving cup

The pistil tong in the

is silent.. nevertheless

LOVE FROM THE ELEMENTS

The waves of the sea
kiss her feet.
The sea breeze
waves her hair.
The sun bathes her
with blessings
as earth upholds her.

CATERPILLAR TOLERANCE

Said the plant to God..
  how many caterpillars must
I tolerate,
They are my size belittling
while theirs is tripling
as on my leaves they are
constantly nibbling.
And God replied..
I will confine them to only
two of your leaves..
so please now..
stop your quibbling
my favorite liebling.

DRAGGED INTO FORGIVENESS

Those Christmas lights of old
through the glass one sees their bubblers gleam
as gurgling under the ice
are Marchmelt streams
.. ice which will be dragged into forgiveness
by the sun

In pure flame no smoke
For its fire no killed tree of oak

SERMON

His heart whispered a sermon.
Leave his skin on every ermine.
To God all creatures are sacred

CHUTES

Kicked and electroshocked
into slaughterhouse chutes
each innocent animal with
a captive bolt pistol the hireling shoots.
 

SEASONS

September leaves
slowly down drift
December snowflakes
fall quiet, swift
April bloom petals
slowly down sift
May's merciful rain
the earth softly gifts.
June dandelion down
drops as breezes shift
and then south wind
up each and all lifts

RISING TIDE

"A rising tide

lifts all ships."
all flowers are in bliss
  on a sunny day

Round the hard rock are
a circle of heather
as tenacious as angels

CUT DOWN BEFORE THEY FLOWERED

As grass spires are cut down
by mowers before they flower or seed
so our young men are slain by machines
of hate and war profiteers' greed

THE SEAS' SYMPHONIES

The Marine band
plays martial music
to line men up
in queues for war
.. the trumpet player
a mouthpiece
for bombs.

But the symphonies
of the seas
ever play
the waves of peace.

CARNIVOROUS BUTTERFLY

Like an herbivorus caterpillar
which turned to carnivorous butterfly
are those who with plane wings

TRUTH UNADORNED

Like the sun needing
no cloud garment
arrayed only with his
soul rays,
the truth, self-lighted,
self evident
stands alone without
a shred of evidence.

WING-SHOD

Pigeons, wing-lifted, need
not obey ashram rules.
Mercury is wing-ankled
and the servant of
wing-shod Love.

THEY DON'T PARSE PARSLEY

Those who work for plant rights
don't parse parsley
nor bomb poppies
nor purchase antipeople papers.
They plant papaya and pepper, peach,
pear, and plum.
Their pulpit is the popular*
not the papal but poplars.

CLINTON'S PAINTING

A vision:
 Bill Clinton strode into
a room in which a dark and specific
painting of the crucifixion was on an easel.
He picked up a palate of pastels
and with broad strokes covered the
painting entire
with Easter sunfire:
resurrection colors

PAUL ROBESON

In a famous life Paul Robeson
arrived on earth with black robes on.
In previous lives he came into view
arrayed in bodies of different hues.

His voice poured with the love of his
massive heart..like "ole man river"
...like the mighty Mississippi..
it made people quiver
as he gathered the tears of many soulstreams
to give them to the divine sea.

(Paul Robeson was a worldclass singer,, a victorious football
player, a lawyer, crucified for his work to make governments more responsive to
the poor.)

RAIN AND RAINBOWS

We need rain to make a rainbow...
through drops goes
the glow...
of the palate of pastels
which says "goodbye to hell"

SLOW LEARNER

At 4 taken to a silkworm factory... I was horrified by
the worms being boiled alive.
At 6, I was asked to weed my neighbor's garden...
I hated pulling out the plants and was fired.
At 8, I went fishing with my father. He was spiked
by a catfish in the boat and could have bled to death.
I refused to fish and he never fished again.
At 17, forced to take home economics because of my gender, there was a chart on
the wall... of a cow... by dotted lines subdivided into steaks. I did not
connect that to my plate.
At 19, seeing the film Mondo Kane... a film of torture
of animals around the world, I remained unconscious.
It was not until meeting an ethics professor on a Vietnam War vigil for peace
who talked about the violence of the dinner table, that a connection was
made...even then I
resisted for 6 months. I had not seen a farm or a slaughterhouse growing up.
Billions are waking up... as on all sides we are presented more and
more with videos of slaughterhouses

BELLTOWER

Thoughtbirds into
minds' belltowers fly
but as we age
faster out they fly.

MOOSE AND GOOSE

Geese is the plural of goose.
Mice is not the plural of moose.
Rights has every cat.
Dignity has every rat.
Beauty has every bat.

A UNIQUE FRUIT

Each God designed fruit
has a many functions, at least
one unique. Their colors
give them different frequencies.
The lauric acid of the coconut
blesses meditation.
The purple plum cures
constipation.
The orange, lemon and lime
rid the body of slime.

Greets the dawn with

When we see whited fields
of Queen Anne's Lace
let it remind us they
are crystallized grace.
Light poured forth
from His Big Dippers
gathers and forms
in wee ladies' slippers.
The outpouring of divinity

can believe in eternal love
as we believe in songs we cannot see
so hidden is eternity

It is the byproduct of animal protein, amyloid plaque, which lines the arteries

brain causing blockage of blood flow.

just as they know that Arthur can avoid arthritis
by eliminating the pre-urine, uric acid or trioxypurine in animal flesh...
which crystallizes in needle formation around the joints causing
pain. Arthur can avoid atherosclerosis... by not eating the fat of murdered
animals.

In addition, Luke can avoid leukosis (a name for leukemia when a chicken has
it) by leaving the chickens alone.

Gray can transcend gloom, depression by not eating mammal, bird or fish flesh.
Animals on their way to slaughter and in the slaughterhouse, fish on the hook
fighting
for their lives, secrete massive amounts of adrenalin which saturates their
flesh.
Much of this adrenalin remains after the flesh is cooked. Eating meat is eating
biochemical fear, anger, and terror. Wherever vegetarian diet has been used to
relieve depression it has worked.

Albert's twin brother Alfred can bypass alcoholism by going to nonviolent food.
