They've been replaced by more expensive, mercury
  containing bulbs.
Flourescent light bulbs use less energy and last longer.
However most of them are made in China where
the workers are exposed to dangerous levels of mercury.
The mercury contamination is also a problem in disposing
of the expensive light bulbs.
CFL's take more energy in production. They may be
exposing users to dangerous gases.
