CAT TV

They watch on the
window tv
their favorite movie:
"Flitting Birds and
Crouching Squirrels"

They hoped that
two feet of snow
would foil the
nut gatherers
.. who seemed
to flaunt their
freedom..

but no!
the chubby cheeked
chipmunks
and scurrying
squirrels
tunneled under
2 feet of snow
and up the pole!

BREATHING

Taking a walk turned
the writer's nook tomb
back into a room
and the crypt
back into a script

PERIWINKLE SPRAYS

Periwinkle sprays
whom the sun arrays
with His own rays
rootbound
can't go astray

WINDWAKE

In the firewake,
in the windwake
in the water wake
he did to life's purpose
suddenly wake

CRIES

The agonized cries
have pierced heaven's door

CHRISTMAS TREES

Each Christmas tree is lovely
but they were more beautiful in the woods
decorated with jewels of raindrops, pinecones pendant,
sometimes shining with snowflakes glowing in the sun

CINDERELLA AND THE EVERGREEN BALL

In the brookwood twas the fall
Trees thought only of the ball.
Maple donned a pinkling twinkling.
Oak her scarlet acorn rings.

Woven cloth of crystalled sunlight
did the birch and beach slip into
Purple sari'd swayed the locust
Crimson robed the larked larch.

Flame orange fire was the peach
Hickory a light shaft torch.
Soft limelight the mulberry
Emerald elm men's hearts did scorch.

All their gold themselves to gild
None with evergreen did share
Unwitnessed was her sorrow.
Soundless fell her tears.

Shimmered all in ecstasy
Diamond dewdrops in their hair.
Autumn orb through leafy stained glass
Rainbow shrine of sunbeams made.

Evergreen did not notice.
Squirrels nested in her bodice.
Birds were swaddled in her boughs.
Oer her now a rose moon rose.

Wintergreen winds blew the trumpet.
Frost the puritan heralded they.
Seized he garments of the dance.
Left all leafless in the rain.

December's eve came to the forest
and the children from the town
garlanded lil firtree gaily
In all hearts was she crowned.

Wherever you see one forest light
in a sequined velvet night
it is she all crystal candled
sign to all who pass her by

art's erratic
love's forever
Loving spirit
never dies.

school and took care of her
Parkinsonian husband and children
from 5 am to midnight
for 20 years)

EPHEMERAL FORMS

Iceberg turrets fall.
Cloud palaces rain away.
Sand castles are kidnapped by the tide.
Snow flakes melt.
Bubble orbs burst.
Perfectly capsulized nutshells crack open.
But the substance does abide.
Forms are ephemeral.
The souls are eternal.

CHRISTMAS COLORS

Only the forest green fir
and the redleafed oak
did hold their leaves
in the winter wild
to make December's eves
for the Baby more mild.
Perhaps that is why
they're the colors
of Joseph and Mary
and the Christ Child

CYMBALS

Seen throught the eyes
certain symbols
crash in the heart
like ringing cymbals..
but generally

sound and aroma
go to the valleys
of memory.. more
quickly than sight

the sound of a forgotten
name..
the smell of a long
ago fragrance

EBS

As she looked down on her little baby
who had no toes and no fingers,
tears fell softly down her cheeks
as soundless as snow on a quiet night.

There were many other things wrong
with her little one.

But day by day she battled..
scheduled operations..
maintained with her husband
a 24 hour watch..
dragged herself through
each day's exhaustion by
her unequaled will..
her humor bubbling up
through even the most
granite situation

she has reached now
a plateau.. as her
baby's progress
amazes all

She has no room in her
life for 1 unnecessary
piece of clothing..
or object..
they block the
wonderful flow
of her power

She has always given
her heart entire
She has always
enkindled with
her heart fire
and even the
unignitable
find themselves
melting
around her

Perhaps in 108 lives
we can follow her
path

God bless her
and everyone she loves

L SIGN

He was walking down
the street
after the end
of his engagement..
when the capital
L of a street
sign fell near him..
underlining his
falling Love.
As he watched
the manager
come out with
a ladder, hammer
and nails..
and affix the
L once again..
he thought
perhaps
he too
would try again.

NONVIOLENT VIOLETS

All flowers including violets
breathe fragrance and nonviolence..
Even the Venus fly trap...
the 100th lamb of blooms
.. is drawn to gentle realm of
flowers
through their peacebeauty power.

When the petals of
the goldrose bloom leave
.. the faithful
green leaves
do not leave

CASTLE ON A ROCK

When he built castles
by the sea
as a little child
The sea
Like a destructive child
with waves so wild
undermined the sandcastles
and left as a token
some seaweed tassles

Now he built his
castles on higher stony land
not in the fragile
and moving sand

NOT STREET LIGHTS BUT STARS

Do garish street lights
block the shy stars of night?
Fire sirens not for long
shroud the mornbird's chorus song
The eclipsed moon
glows
as the clouds pass on..
And the whispers
of God... roar through eternity.

Once God enkindles
Mars
God need not its
fires stoke.

NEPTUNE'S HAIR

Neptune's hair
its wavelet strands
melted the castles
in the sands
but further inland
with his tidal hand
sent coconuts

The person who sleeps

LIBERATION OF ICE

The ice does not
in pain scream
when in the sun
he melts into stream
nor does he scream
when he higher climbs
and is released

DEFINITION OF LOVE

Nancy went upstairs
in response to a bell
and got her nonagenarian mother
out of bed
.. bathed her
dressed her..
helped her brush her teeth
and comb her hair
.. took her blood pressure
.. changed the sheets on her bed
.. brought her downstairs in
a walker..
to a breakfast of fresh fruit
cut up by her husband
who would sit with her mother
when she went out shopping
before they took her mother for a drive
and made 2 more meals
and did the laundry
and brought it upstairs.
Then she took her mother to the
bathroom with the walker
6 more times during
the day.. cleaned up
diarrhea..
and... and... and..
At night she played cards
with her.
During the night she
waited for the sound of
the bell.. sometimes
once
sometimes twice
sometimes thrice.

God has commissioned Time to grant
prayer requests that angels
can't immediately respond to.

ETERNAL VICTORY

Light seeps into darkness
Love triumps over hate
Sweetness drips into
sour fruit as we wait.

SCULPTORS

Woodpeckers sculpt treehomes
with their beaks.
Cats with their claws
   etch new holes.
Waves through the ages
  turn rocks into rookeries.
Streams through time
  round sharp edges from stones.
The sun carves new curves
  in the iceberg's caves.
But only human sculptors
  consciously finger their
   soulvision into stone.

WHERE CAN PUMPKINS SEEK REFUGE?

The strong branches of an old apple tree
can support two tons of apples free
but only Mother Earth can hold
pumpkin spheres of growing glowing gold.

ALL IS WELL

Subterranean
streams will upwell.
Thus tart fruit
sweetens and swells.

THE BAMBOO BOWS IN THE STORM

The bridge lasts for
her arches accommodate
the river to which she is squared.
The belltower's apertures
