Animals trapped for
fur sometimes chew their paws off to free themselves. Sometimes
they die of thirst, hunger, or of being attacked by birds of prey or carnivorous animals.
Sometimes the trapper comes along and murders them in a way which will not
damage the skin. Sometimes the process of skinning them begins before they are
dead.
