Blueberry Bees

Their honey
tastes like blueberries
when blueberry bees
cavort in the breeze

Their honey tastes
like peaches
When peachtree bees
fly where they please

When we stop eating honey
we protect bee lives
to gather nectar with ease
and to do as they please.

Footnote:
A British rabbi reported that
the wings of the queen bee are often
clipped so that she may not move the hive.
Bees are often crushed as the racks are slid
in and out. Some beekeepers would rather
kill the bees in winter than let them eat the
honey which is the fruit of their own labor.
It is cheaper for these beekeepers to kill them
and buy more bees in the spring.
