for being saved brings my soul exultation

as I have been, more than four decades, taught.

Author's Notes/Comments: 

Writing this poem, I experienced a bit of a miracle:  as I typed out the verse from 1 John that is the poem's epigraph, the same verse was read aloud on the television.  I did not control that timing, and I take it as a confirmation.  The "four decades" refers to the time since late June, 1980, when I decided to convert to the Faith of the Orthodox Church.  I was not, in that time of my life, careful about recording all important dates,
