I'll Bury This Heart

I found a piece of my heart

At the park yesterday

It laid lifeless by the slide

As people went on their way

I bent over and picked it up

And painfully I began to see

You and I had sat right here

When you said you were done with me

I looked closer and I saw

Small words written in pen

Phrases like “I love you” and “I need you”

Had felt so real then

This piece of my scarlet heart

Was now dirty and torn

It had been walked on

And I began to mourn

You said you were sorry

But you loved another heart

And someday I would find the right one

To heal the torn part

I had said that I was fine

But I knew he saw it land

It fell in such an innocent spot

Hidden in the sand

I tried to rub off the ink

But it was permanent

words that were so dear to me

Were now distorted and bent

I’ll bury this torn part

Where it lost it’s life

I’ll put up a stone

And take out a knife

I carve very slowly

Into the worn out stone

Under “RIP” it said

“I’m sorry you’re on your own”

It’ll grow back stronger

And I’m glad that I’ll know forever

When he says I’ll always love you

He mean until he find something better
