Release Me

These chains that bind me were once welcome –

They supplied security, protection.

Today I learned they are cumbersome,

A stifling and burdensome connection.

Aches and pains fall from temples to toes

Accented by this pounding in my brain.

No amount of soap or pills can depose

These sorry ills, make them wash down the drain.

No, it comes down to me, that much I see.

If I will it done, then it will be so –

Why call to you when I hold the key?

What a discovery, most apropos –

The stars are aligning, the fates agree –

Only I have the power to release me.
