Come to Your Senses

When disappointment becomes commonplace
Do you inadvertently seek it out?
The cause of it all stares you in the face,
Yet you blame yourself. What's all that about?

My boy, it's time you came to your senses.
He lures you in, strips down your defenses
And casts you as the villain of the piece -
You have more than earned an early release.

Magnificence, by design, will transfix.
What's one little flaw? Nothing you can't fix.
You resign yourself to mad frustration
Spending all your time on restoration.

My boy, it's time you came to your senses.
As you build bridges he puts up fences,
Shielding your light from his darkened lair.
Isn't it clear you're not wanted there?

What a lesson to learn, and a hard one, too -
If it's impenetrable nothing goes through,
Not even you and your goodhearted vigor.
The marksman of fate always pulls the trigger.

My boy, it's time you came to your senses.
You've accrued far too many expenses
In the name of those who don't value you -
Save yourself for someone whose love is true.

Come to your senses, boy. Come to your senses.
