One More Night

That swing still sways in the old playground
All at once current and of the past.
I walk by and hear its weary sound
Recalling the things I hoped would last.

Remember when I was a little boy
And the simplest pleasures meant utter joy?

How I hunger for just one more night,
The sun gently setting,
Your smile, one last push on the swing
Before we’d hug and walk home hand in hand.
I knew everything would be all right
And slept soundly in bed.
For that now I’d give anything,
A safe way back to that enchanted land.

There was a last time we had such a day
And we couldn't have known as we headed back to town,
But if I had I’d have begged you to stay,
To keep on pushing till the man in the moon smiled down.

I see now I should have put up a fight.
Why did I ever let you take me home?

How I hunger for just one more night,
The sun gently setting,
Your smile, one last push on the swing
Before we’d hug and walk home hand in hand.
I knew everything would be all right
And slept soundly in bed.
For that now I’d give anything,
A safe way back to that enchanted land.
