Always Too Soon

The same roads that lead to you lead away,

And I can place each bend and faded sign.

There’s a catch in my throat by light of day

Since I know I’m your moonglow Valentine.

I study each expression on your face

And archive them all so I won’t forget.

They’ll transport me back to this time and place,

Rosy cheeks without a trace of regret.

Though words get lost between your head and heart

I comprehend all that you do not say.

With the simple pleasures you can impart

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It could be grey, a dreary afternoon –

My time spent with you ends always too soon.
