What to Keep and What to Leave Behind

For you and me what was ordinary?

What left our sundry boxes neatly checked?

After the dawn all proved secondary,

Misty memories we didn’t expect.

Though common sense held us in high regard,

Rescuing our jumbled hearts when they strayed,

How could they ever escape getting scarred,

The fringes and boundaries forever frayed?

Our movie has an original score

And the melodies still pervade my mind.

In time I’ll keep them closer all the more –

It’s only the sorrow I’ll leave behind.

We shared a story nothing can replace

But it’s time that I find its proper place.
