A Diamond

There's a boy I know whose words frustrate me.
They always center on the material.
I hope for the fortunes that await me
To be far more grounded, less ethereal.

His highest wish is for a well-moneyed man.
"No roses," he says. "Just give me the cash."
Luxury jewelry is part of his plan,
Racing through Cartier in a mad dash.

I too love what sparkles in the light,
But it won't keep me warm at night.

Would that he knew that the one thing worth that much,
The greatest of riches, beyond all compare,
Is the moment of a man's comforting touch,
Proving he loves you, that he'll always be there.

Yes, find a man who treats you like a diamond my friend -
You'll soon discover your lust for them is at an end.
