Have You Seen This Man

Have you seen this man?

He could teach a class in withholding
If expertise in its workings were needed,
Thinks of me as his for beholding
Though his affections are merely conceded.

I haven't seen him now for quite a while,
A plot twist I'm learning to reconcile.

In his place is a different man, indeed.
I could take a warm bath in his soothing phrases.
They're certainly less difficult to read.
The attempt at directness frankly amazes.

Even his arms around me feel more certain
As we shut out the world behind the curtain.

I savor each moment before it passes,
The flavor on my palette lingering sweetly.
As we move in and raise our glasses
For one shining moment I am his completely.

Still, I'll ask once more, have you seen this man who's gone astray?

Oh. Not a word from him, you say?

Good. Keep it that way.
