Not the First, Not the Last

The time will come when you're sure of his place

And perish the thought of his ring on your finger,

But don't let it for a moment erase

The lesson he taught you - let it burn and linger.

He's not the first, my friend, and he's not the last.

He's one of a long line to play a beauty for a fool.

Clear up the cobwebs now, sweep him from your past.

Forget the hurt but keep the wisdom - that's the only rule.

So many times you came running when he called.

Where was he in your single hour of need?

Even then you opened the door when he crawled

Back on his knees, letting your good heart bleed.

He's not the first, my friend, and he's not the last.

He's one of a long line to play a beauty for a fool.

Clear up the cobwebs now, sweep him from your past.

Forget the hurt but keep the wisdom - that's the only rule.

Don't apologize for giving your all,

Not for anything that's a part of your beauty.

Take stock of yourself. Remember, stand tall.

Know self-respect is a sacred duty.

He's not the first, my friend, and he's not the last.

He's one of a long line to play a beauty for a fool.

Clear up the cobwebs now, sweep him from your past.

He'll regret his lying ways soon. He lost a precious jewel.
