For the Sake of You

For optimal breath, for sanity and light

I try to piece together with all my might

The mess my life has lately come to,

Driven to win for the sake of you.

You wonder will I be there to lean on

When so many failed you before?

Will you turn around just to find I've gone,

Turned my back and walked out the door?

Some questions have no answers that properly land,

Not for a lone wolf when his heart has been broken.

All I can do is assuringly take your hand,

Make effort to embody the words I've spoken.

It isn't easy, this era of living,

This time of measuring want and giving,

But there is no question it's what I must do,

A gift to be able for the sake of you.

You often stop just to question each smile.

If I cling too tight will your needs be forsaken,

Your neglected sense of self put on trial?

Will my portrait show a risk you should have taken?

What a crossroads for both of us, it seems,

The wind and dust caressing our faces.

In case this is the stuff of both our dreams

I propose a few more miles' embraces.

I have to admit some speed bumps are unnerving.

I question myself. Am I truly deserving?

But simply knowing our wishes could come true

Means there's no pain at all for the sake of you.
