A Day in the Sun

Lately I've had a problem with self-love,

Taking solace in the lonely dark.

It's something I've just had illusions of.

Actuality has missed the mark.

The melody lingers when it comes to him,

Elevator music when I least expect it.

Mere thought of him and all my energies dim,

A definite problem. I need to correct it.

It's time to take stock and move away

From all sadness that holds me at bay.

It's time for seagulls. It's time for vitamin D.

How would you fancy a day in the sun with me?

We'll frolic gaily, we'll stroll upon the sand

And study the clouds dreaming new dreams we've planned.

Now and then we retreat behind the curtain –

Everyone needs time to heal –

But we owe it to ourselves to make certain

That there's a pulse left to feel.

Pain has passed this way with its indelible mark

And I know I will never be the same.

Still again I emerge, coming out of the dark,

Never a loser at this living game.

I hear children laughing, the wind hits my hair.

A little bit of nature and I repair.

It's time for seagulls. It's time for vitamin D.

How would you fancy a day in the sun with me?

We'll frolic gaily, we'll stroll upon the sand

And study the clouds dreaming new dreams we've planned.
