Lie to Me Again

They call me Mr. Gullible, that much you heard –

You did all your research, I volunteered the rest.

For every fissure and crack you’ve the perfect word.

Now you relax. I all but ask to fail the test.

Your pronouncements and promises – music to my ears.

They’re a symphony to assuage my doubts.

So lie to me again, baby. Lie to me again.

You know what I want to hear. Won’t you repeat it, then?

All these days and hours I lie here in wait –

The sun blisters my skin and the nights grow long.

The fire grows, but you explain it’s my fate –

I must be patient. You wouldn’t steer me wrong.

Tsunami be damned. It’s time to swim in your wave.

I’ve no compass, no way home – I’m yours to deprave.

So lie to me again, baby. Lie to me again.

You know what I want to hear. Won’t you repeat it, then?
