A Child's Prayer

May they always know the depth of my love
No matter the distance that separates.
From here beside me or heaven above
That its profundity communicates.
If ever I was less than grateful,
Let that be erased.
All words which were hollow or hateful
Are to be replaced.
I would not have known all the bittersweet,
Would have never experienced the gold life can bring.
I drink it all in as I hit the street,
Turning back to say "I love you. Thanks for everything,"
Though it is not enough and far from their due.
"Dear Lord, please watch over and protect them, too."
This is a child's prayer.
