This past week has exposed us to the dire consequences that arise when guns are used as a primary means of addressing fears, misunderstanding, anxieties or grievances. In just three short days we begin to tangibly feel the eroding foundations of trust, security, and certainty that underpin a civil and sane society. We can, as a society, continue to believe in, and turn to, violence as a primary resolution mechanism. But if it feels like this after three short days, imagine for a minute where that dire path will take us.
I'm not anti guns. I'm against our pervasive societal belief that violence is the answer. I'm anti Rambo, Rocky, the Iraq war, murder on tv, murder in our video games, I'm anti dirty Harry, and Boys in the hood. I'm anti violent rap music. I'm anti death metal. I'm anti drones, and the 100s of thousands of murders that I've seen enacted on tv. I'm anti Isis. I'm anti mutually assured destruction. I'm anti violence being acceptable to redress jealousy. I'm anti the near constant communication by our media and our military propaganda machines that violence is often a valid response. It's not. Self defense is justifiable, but all of the other multitude of reasons we've developed to condone the use of violence are not. I direct these criticisms at us all:
Only a society of sociopaths would even consider it to be otherwise.
We all need to get our minds right. We need to find sanity in our thinking if we are to develop sane solutions to our problems. This world is helter skelter and the common thread is violence. #LETSPROVEWEAREEVOLVED
