Ok so we are going to war,
What is there to look forward for?
What’s the point of going on?
Soon we will all be gone!
Listen here, you will be safe,
Don’t give yourself such a chafe.
I’ve survived the last two wars,
There is so much more than inside your door.
Hey gramps, I don’t mean to be rude,
But when did I ask you to intrude?
The truth is I’m scared of what will be,
All I want is my country to be free.
I am only a child, I don’t want to die…
Young man look into my eye.
War will be over in a few short years,
So dry your face and wipe your tears.
Start preparing for the war to come,
Then there will be no harm done.
‘Run boy, the siren sounds,
Though it’s probably the testing rounds.’
‘Family we must move haste,
Or we will all be waste.
Bombs are falling, Planes soar,
We are all caught up in this nuclear war.’
*Clash, bang, the bombs all fall,
Demolishing much more than a wall.
One hour later, time did pass,
Out move the family from under the grass.*
‘I thought I’d lost you’, said the mum,
‘Mr. Elderbry ordered me here’, exclaimed her son.
*Ten minutes later, O time did pass,
Movement from under the broken glass.
The boy searched to thank Mr. Elderbry,
Having survived with only a bruised knee.
Ambulance sirens started to shriek,
The boy began to feel so weak.*
‘I’m sorry son, you must not pass,
There is a man dead beneath the glass.’
‘Oh god, please don’t let it be,
Please not Mr. Elderbry.’
‘Did you know this man lad?’
‘Without this man I wouldn’t have had,
My life no more I would be dead,
I need a minute to clear my head,
This man told me he had prepared,
God I was so scared,
I can’t go on any more,
There isn’t anything to look forward for,
We will all die in the end,
There is no use trying to pretend.’
‘Lad put that down you will get hurt,
I know you are shocked and in alert.
You have years ahead of you, live your life,
Don’t end it here, Good Streiff.’
‘Tell my family I loved them so,
Please make sure you let them know…’
This is the best one yet Adam !!
