YOU

You are the oyster

At the bottom of the sea.

Why do you close yourself up from the world?

Someone has hurt you,

Destroyed your shell,

And stole your sole possesion...

Your heart;your pearl.

You are the ostrich

With your head in the sand.

Why do you hide the way you feel?

Someone has left you alone and scared,

And you no longer trust the few who still care.

You are the chameleon,

Red,gold,and green.

Why are you constantly changing who you are?

Your disguises are your protection

From the past you'd rather forget.

You are the clown with the painted-on smile

That covers how you feel inside.

Why don't you just wash it off,

And let me see what's underneath?

Author's Notes/Comments:

This was the first real poem I ever wrote,my Junior year, and it's about defense mechanisms people use for protection.
