my father´s books

I have 20 years and since I was a little kid I learned that books are a very important part of my father’s life.

He taught me how to read and enjoy books. I will never forget when we read together one page me and one page my father, every time I see a book I remember my father because he always has a book by his side.

I learned how to read stories when I was a kid, I remember the first book he gave me to read called “The old man and the sea” by Ernest Hemmingway we read it together and I loved it, that book developed my passion to read, in fact it is still one of my favorites books nowadays.

I remember how he encouraged me to read and how he became very happy every time he saw me reading.

Over the years, I grew up and things changed but I still saw my dad with his books. Although sometimes I wasn’t very sure of what he was reading, there was always a book beside his bed.

He always carries a book to every trip, if we go to ski or to the beach when we go fishing or hunting, he always needs to have a book. Reading has become a habit for him. I remember one vacation that he forgot his book and he started reading the car’s manual.

Books mean a lot to my father, he has hundredths of them and he keeps them in a big bookseller in his room. He has books of all kind and authors: science fiction, historical, poetry, comedy, novels. He has read them all more than once, specially he likes Latin American literature. I think books have helped my father in many ways because a person who reads is always more interesting, creative and intelligent. Books have helped my father to become a very successful man.

Now that I am older, my father recommend and lend me some of his books and I do the same thing, every time I find a good book the first thing I do is recommend it to my father, his favorite book is “one hundred years of solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Thanks to my father my three brothers and I developed the love for reading and I am sure he is very proud of that; I am very thankful with my father for making grow in me the love for reading and when I have kids I will do the same with them.
