Soft kitty

SOFT KITTY

"My little man, what troubles you know?
Let me take your temperature, let me pat your brow....
Is your belly feeling bad? tell why you're sad?
Let me sit and sing a tune it will help you rest and comfort you.
A song that's been sung since you were wee.
The song that's called soft kitty.
One day you will grow into a man, momma won't be here to hold your hand.
So remember my child as I sing to you, the song soft kitty when your sick or when your blue."

A man walks the streets in a city grand
The chaos of life is at hand
So many people, so much noise its hard to get traction yet he deploys
Minding his own as he walks along, keeping in rhythm with the cities song.
A scream and a shot ring out from close by
The people are running with fear in their eyes, "some one please help!" is heard through the crowd
Yet the people keep running, screaming out load.

A man runs into a store front that's tattered. Blood on the walls, a clerk that is battered.
Next sound that's heard are the voices of the fear, scattered about, but still clear
A man with a gun comes into vision, its fight or flight, no other decision.
Shots are fired after a struggle occurs, the smoke and dust clears, nothing is heard

A man in a hospital looks into the eyes of a care giving woman to her surprise
Has only one thought, a simple request as he is being treated, for a bullet in his chest
"As I lie here dying, it's not in vein, I gave my self for another, I accept the pain. My actions are part of what I do, the reason I wear this cloak of blue. This one request I ask before, the door of life is open no more. To hear a song from long ago one that you just may know. It has brought me comfort all my days, healing my spirit, while it plays."

The care giving woman with a tears in her eyes, leaned in close put her hands behind
"Just say the word and I will oblige, in this world filled with madness, you continued to give you shined a light so others may live."

The last words she heard from this prince of the city while shaking her head with sadness and pity. "Can you sing me a verse, a verse of soft kitty?"
