Lamenting, Mourning, Saying his Adieu

He doesn’t even see it.

He won’t admit to why.

But I know his heart is aching.

I know that he had tried.

He thought it what he wanted.

And his wants are justified.

But it wasn’t who he needed

To bring his wants to tide.

I know that it consumed him.

I know it was his life.

I know it’s all he thought he knew,

But she was not to be his wife.

He says that he is sorry,

He asks for my forgiveness all the time.

But I see him not guilty

Of committing any crime.

Perhaps he thinks it weakness

Or perhaps he thinks I doubt

That his love for me is actual

As if I any doubt!

I know that he is wounded

I also know that he will heal.

And I know that it’s our kinship

That will let him see what’s real.

That this is, here, what love is!

That not only ignorance means bliss

And together we will take this life

And make much of happiness!
