why is kindness dangerous?

He wore his shadow like a name

Stayed on the edges of the game

The lunch bell blew a winter wind

No one kept a seat for him

Notes like stones weighed down his pack

Whispers circled, sharp attack

Eyes cast down to hide the ache

Why does kindness feel so dangerous?

He watched the numbers fall like leaves

Chasing a body he could keep

The mirror loosened at the seams

Still the gossip beat its drum

Jokes like pennies, tossed as rain

Every word cut just the same

He could fade to dust one day

Tell me, why does kindness feel so dangerous?
