Such an empty night, once festivities die
when the sounds filter out and the lights are dimmed
and the floors do not creak, because no one will walk them
as they all sprawl out upon their beds
full from excitement and done with the joy
closed eyes and sighs, perhaps even a few tears
because now as things settle down, life begins once more
and Christmas is over before it has begun
so to family and friends, as I bid them goodnight
thankyou for the presents and the laughter we've shared
as i curl up with a yawn, and think of the next day ahead
and with tired eyes dream of nothing but peace
