Quietly she treaded the wooden
planks of the old boardwalk
dragging her left hand over
sporadically placed discarded gum
on the cold white guard-rail
until she walked upon a short brown
Mexican man claiming to be an artist
his long hair
painted clothes
& his please-feed-me look
convinced her of his truth
so she sat
& sat
& sat
until his masterpiece was complete
in his best English he said,
“it is feenis”
as fast as he could turn his canvas
to reveal her revelation
she immediately denied it was her
he repeatedly replied partly in English
partly in Spanish
“si, it is you”
she didn’t want to see the mirror
his canvas seemed to be
of a woman
battered
beaten
bleeding
the overwhelming knots
in her gut knew the truth
the unsettling twitches
in her eyes and hands knew the truth
the throbbing bruises under the
cracking foundation knew the truth
the narrow red welts on the back
of her thighs knew the truth
through her tears, again she
denied it was her
exacting her conviction he exclaimed
“si, it is you”
“si, it is you”
“SEE, IT IS YOU!”
There's actually more happening here
then her walk down the boardwalk
it is a walk where avoids gum drops
only to be face with the gumworks of
her gummed up life
Nice
I like it, it reminds me of 'Twilight Zone'
or 'The Outer Limits'
nice story...
reminds me of the line...
"No matter where you go, there you are."
