Mind's Eye

Stark lies adorned my mindset for too long -

I'd always wondered how things could be so;

The time for recollection is far gone.

Soft honeyed words were held on many tongues -

I heard them and could not deny them, no;

Stark lies adorned my mindset for too long.

The truths of yesterday have faded into wrong

And I am left still wond'ring why, although

The time for recollection is far gone.

I stumble in a frenzy of warped song -

Unhappiness lies on me, a plateau;

Stark lies adorned my mindset for too long.

No understanding finds my ears alone,

No threnody to thoughts now down below;

The time for recollection is far gone.

Aghast my mind delves deeply, on it goes -

It finds dark prejudice and its death throes.

Stark lies adorned my mindset for too long;

The time for recollection is far gone.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this after thinking a lot about the way every single person on this earth has had some sort of knowledge thrust into them before they are old enough to ask too many questions... at least, that was my idea at the time.
