#20

Folder:
Sonnets

Deny yourself, deny it all, and still

you find a sharper image in its place,

composed of fiercer, bolder, stronger will

than aught else hiding underneath this face.

Interrogate your heartstrings, beg their leave

to disentangle, complement, arrive

at simpler complex, and the weave

is wound about, beholds you work and strive.

Such actions wound and suture, cauterize,

must needs make weak and strengthen in a stroke;

such cauterizing devastates the eyes

with images destroyed when they awoke.

In times these days may bring great works and days,

but only if the present, lasting, pays.

Author's Notes/Comments:
