I am shedding the flesh I have long since outgrown
Gone from the world hewn from their stone
I slither and wind under the brush
You trail my journey, but, I will not rush
Stay paces behind me, for your safety not mine
Be fearful the venom I have stored over time
They wanted an adversary so this I became
Now whisper your opinions, embellish my name
Come closer, come closer, in this fresh light
Comparing the growth, ignoring the blight
Please do not grasp as the scales unwind
Speak to your remembrances, for the blind lead the blind
Fork my tongue and hiss my memory
I will live on as a fable, endlessly
Wrapping this world, to only bite myself in the end
One thing I know is you were never a friend
Some they will warm me, cold blood to the heat
Others may fear me, bolt in retreat
Some help to carry, slung about their shoulder
The serpent not weightless, only growing older
Softly caress me, smooth and tickling tongue
But let me assure all, my growth is not yet done
A puzzle left for me to refashion
But truly observing is my latest passion
My dalliances are few for mostly I stay hidden
This work that I do is encapsulated within
I hold the knowledge missing from generations past
Like Adam and Eve the repercussions do last
Slitted eyes see more clearly than ever
The time you truly knew me was, well, never
